1901 - Queen Victoria's funeral recorded on film.
1893 - 'Fred Ott's Sneeze' first film made at Edison's new studio.
1893 - Emile Berliner begins marketing disc gramophones in the US.
1886 - Karl Benz patents first petrol driven car.
1881 - Edison patents his incandescent lamp.
1878 - First commercial phone switchboard in New Haven, Connecticut.
1856 - Victoria Cross
valour award is instituted. 1788 - La Perouse, France, enters Botany Bay, NSW, Australia.
