60 GHz wireless demo at up to 12.5 Gbit/sA 60 GHz Photonic-Wireless system from IPHOBAC can apparently achieve data rates up to 12.5 Gb/s over short-to-medium-range wireless spans. It appears distances out to 1km at 10 Gb/s have been achieved although severe rain storms can reduce the reliable range to about 600 metres, still an impressive figure for this band. Digging trenches to lay cable to houses is an expensive business (£500 per home passed ?). The use of 60 GHz wireless to provide a link from the street cabinet to the home could be a way of reducing costs.
