Special Canadian Callsign Prefix

The use of a Special Event Prefix callsign has been approved by Industry Canada and can be used by all Canadian Radio Amateurs. It commemorates Galileo's first use of an optical telescope and the subsequent discoveries he made in his lifetime.

Starting January 1st until February 28th 2009 all Canadian amateur radio operators may use the special prefix.

VE changes to CG
VA changes to CF
VO changes to CH
VY changes to CI

For example
VE7DAO = CG7DAO
VA3DAO = CF3DAO

It will certainly attract hams from around the world to call and find out what the new callsign is and will promote the International Year of Astronomy.

A Special Prefix QSL Card has been designed and available for download for this unique Canadian event.
