CARS collect Lottery gear from W&S

The Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society (CARS) recently applied for and was awarded a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery 'Awards for All' scheme that gives grants to local groups.

The grant is to be used to further develop Amateur Radio training in the Chelmsford area as well as Radio Sports (contests) and a demonstration station in the 2MT hut in the Sandford Mill Science & Industry Museum. Among the equipment the club is purchasing with the grant are Laptops, PC Projector, Amateur Radio Transceivers, HF Linear and Antennas.

The application form for the grant was straightforward to complete and was dealt with speedily and efficiently by the Awards for All organisation.

On Saturday 20th December members of the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society visited their local Amateur Radio dealer Waters and Stanton in Hockley, Essex. They were met and made extremely welcome by Peter Waters G3OVJ of W&S who presented them with the clubs lottery purchased equipment.

Also present at the event was Brian Reay G8OSN, RSGB Board Member, with Portfolio for Amateur Radio Development. Brian has been responsible for establishing the very successful Train the Trainers (TtT) scheme that offers Amateur Radio tutors some guidance on running courses and teaching techniques. So far 6 Chelmsford Amateurs have attended TtT courses run by Brian.

Volunteers from the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society run courses for the Amateur Radio Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced exams and also provide Morse Code training.

To find out more about their courses or to join, please contact the CARS Training organiser Clive Ward G1EUC

Groups can apply each year for a new lottery grant and it is understood that one enterprising Amateur Radio Club has now made 3 grant applications. In 2009 the National Lottery grant bodies are being re-organised but there will still be grant scheme along the lines of Awards for All.
