Funding cut ends international Emcomm event

Regrettably the RAC-ARRL Myrtle Beach Special Event, planned for mid-March 2009 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has been cancelled.

Preparations for the event, which was to be a second demonstration of cooperation between Canada (RAC) and the United States of America (ARRL) in emergency communications, had to be halted when Canadian government funding was suddenly and severely reduced due to the current world economic situation.

Sincere thanks are extended to all who participated in planning for the event, including Canadian Consulate officials in Atlanta, GA and Raleigh, SC.

Special mention goes to Matt McGuire, AF4UZ, ARRL EC for Horry County, who did so much of the leg work at Myrtle Beach, and his group of local Radio Amateur volunteers.
