433.868 MHz Sports Watch

Texas Instruments have launched a $49 sports watch that can transmit in the Amateur Radio 70cm band.

The Texas Instruments (TI) eZ430 Chronos low-power wireless MCU development kit is unlike any other development kit as it's in the form of a sports watch. Since its introduction the watch has been a runaway success.

Current versions of the watch use 915 or 868 MHz but TI plan to ship worldwide a 433.868 MHz version in March.

TI are expected to present a course on developing with the Chronos at the up-coming Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) in San Jose in April and will be giving away 200 kits at that event, as well as subsequent ESC events in Chicago and Boston.
