Vanuatu DXpedition on-air today
A team of amateur radio operators should be on the air from Vanuatu from today.
The DXpedition to the Republic of Vanuatu, an island nation located in the South Pacific, will run from the 21st to the 28th of January.
The team's goal is to make radio contact with amateur radio operators around the world from Vanuatu.
The team will have two medium-power stations on the air and be able to log more than 10,000 contacts in 6 to 7 days of activity despite the sun’s cycle and the rainy season in the South Pacific.
Expedition members Hrvoje Horvat, Marko Pernic, Franko Bertosa and Zeljko Krestelica have been preparing for five months. They will take with them equipment weighing 100 kilos.
Vanuatu, located some 1,750 kilometres east of Australia, is an archipelago of 83 islands, most of them of volcanic origin.
The team says that Vanuatu is among the 100 most-wanted locations by amateur radio operators.
The team members, Franko (9A3DW), Hrle (9A6XX), Marko (9A8MM), Zeljko (VK6VY/9A5AVV) are all experienced amateur radio operators, each with over 10 years of active radio operating experience.
