Taking to the airwaves to help lifeboat crews
The Peterlee Mail reports that amateur radio enthusiasts transmitted from Hartlepool Lifeboat Station as part of the service’s biggest annual fundraising drive.
The newspaper reports that the Peterlee Radio Club operated from Hartlepool at the weekend as they took part in SOS Radio Week.
Owen Smith M1OJS, secretary of Peterlee Radio Club was quoted as saying: “We can speak with anyone around the world depending on atmospheric conditions and the frequency used. This is the first time we’ve broadcast from Hartlepool Lifeboat Station and we’re really looking forward to it and raising some money to help the volunteer lifeboat crews.”
