Titanic - Museum remembers radio amateur
Wales Online reports that radio amateur Artie Moore MNX was in his South Wales bedroom when he learned the Titanic was sinking – two days before the news appeared in the UK press.
Artie received the CQD and SOS distress calls from the Titanic in the early hours of April 15,1912. He informed the local police in Pontllanfraith but they did not believe him. It was not until the news appeared in the newspapers two days later that he was finally believed.
Caerphilly council’s museum, The Winding House in New Tredegar, is to feature Artie’s extraordinary story in an new exhibition focusing on the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and its links to the region.

The inspiration Artie gave to budding wireless enthusiasts in his local area led to the creation in 1927 of the Blackwood Transmitters Club, which later became the Blackwood Amateur Radio Society (BARS).
The BARS will be operating special event station GB100GGM April 14-15, 2012, see http://www.gw6gw.co.uk/
