1699 Pirate Capt. William Kidd captured in Boston, MA, deported to England.

1858 The shoe manufacturing machine patented by Lyman Blake of Abington, USA.

1865 C.E. Barnes of Lowell, USA, patented the machine gun.

1866 Edison P. Clark of Northampton, USA, patented his indelible pencil.

1885 Louis Pasteur does first effective anti-rabies inoculation on a bitten boy.

1885 G. M. Peters of Xenia, Ohio, patents the cartridge-loading machine.

1886 The first rodeo in America was held at Prescott, Arizona.

1910 The first airplane to fly a mile piloted by W.R. Brookins of Atlantic City, NJ.

1914 AJ Roberts flies first Australian airship over Sydney.

1920 Radio compass used for the first time on a U.S. Navy airplane.
