America Online to bring 'Live 8' To ChinaAmerica Online will stream the Live 8 concerts on demand in China through its Chinese portal partner, Tencent Communications Corporation at www.qq.com. The concerts will be available online a few days after they occur. Tencent is an ISP company serving the Chinese online market. Known as QQ.com, it has an active viewership of over 20 million. Live 8 on QQ.com is likely to reach tens of millions of people. Live 8 took place on Saturday, July 2, and featured concerts in Philadelphia, London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Cornwall, Toronto, South Africa and Tokyo to raise awareness about poverty in Africa and encourage the leaders of the eight most powerful nations to increase aid to poor African countries, cancel debt, and establish trade laws that will help these countries fight poverty and grow economically, saving millions of lives. "The prospect of streaming Live 8 throughout China is enormous. This is another groundbreaking component to a truly worldwide effort, with the Internet providing a way for people everywhere to come together in common cause, to hear the music, learn about the issues, and appreciate this moment," said Jim Bankoff, Executive Vice President of Programming for America Online, Inc. AOL will also make the performances available on demand for six weeks following the event |
