Fire at Moscow's Ostankino TV tower

Fire broke out briefly at Moscow's Ostankino TV tower yesterday afternoon.

Irina Andrianova, a spokeswoman for the Emergency Situations Ministry, told press that a spark from a welder's torch is thought to have ignited a plastic bottle at about 3.50 pm local time inside the third level of the tower.

The fire was quickly put out by workers, but smoke could be seen billowing from the tower, bringing back memories of the major fire five years ago which killed three people and blacked out radio and TV transmissions to the Moscow area
