Is this global warming?

I listened to a scientist on Radio Five Live a few days ago postulating that the current spell of hot weather we are experiencing in the UK is a signal for global warming and climate change. I am sorry to have to disagree.

This hot weather is a natural phenomenon which occurs at a
sun spot minimum. The hot weather which occurred in the summer of 1911 occurred in the sunspot minimum which occurred between cycle 14 and 15. The hot weather that occurred in June 1976 occurred in the sunspot minimum between cycles 20 and 21.

The present spell of hot weather indicates that we are at the sunspot minimum between cycle 23 and 24. It does not signify global warming or climate change. That was also being postulated in 1911 and it didn't happen.

It won't happen this time either. Radio amateurs are aware of the eleven year sunspot cycle and all the strange conditions it accounts for. They associate the unusual radio conditions (and the fantastic Northern Lights displays we experienced last November) with natural changes on the sun.

Why do our scientists and meteorologists ignore these phenomena which have been around for centuries?
