Dutch Railways announces plan to have TV and internet in every intercity trainDutch Railways (NS) has just announced that a trial TV experiment on the Haarlem - Maastricht route was such a success that it plans to introduce TV permanently into 1200 intercity carriages, along with wireless Internet. Although for the experiment NS worked with commercial broadcaster RTL, the permanent scheme is being carried out with Telecommunications company KPN, which will begin fitting out the carriages in December. It’s not clear if RTL will be involved in the new scheme. There are still some contract details to be worked out, according to a spokesperson for NS. The train company has promised that the traveller won’t have to pay extra for the the TV service, which will be supported by commercials, but those passengers who wish to use the Internet will have to pay to access the service. One other piece of good news is that there will be no sound on the TV service, so those who want to work, read or sleep will not be inconvenienced. Source: Media Network
