FCC grants temporary licence to KTRS in St Louis after it loses towers in storm

The US Federal Communications Comission (FCC) has granted a six-month temporary licence to allow KTRS 550 AM in St Louis, Missouri to continue operating despite losing two of its four transmission towers during a storm on Wednesday night.

The licence allows KTRS to broadcast non-directional at night with a power of 1,250 watts using a single tower. Normally the station broadcasts 5 kW directional at night, with a null to the East.

According to a statement from KTRS, this will not affect its listeners throughout the Midwest during the day nor those in the St Louis metropolitan area at night. However, the nighttime signal will be weaker beyond the St Louis metropolitan area until the towers are repaired.

This also makes KTRS a possible DX target, as the usual null to the East will not apply. KTRS operates a talk format.
