RSGB Microwave Manager to attend International Space Colloquium 2007

AMSAT-UK will be holding their 22nd International Space Colloquium at the University of Surrey, Guildford, England from Friday 20th until Sunday 22nd July.

There are no Primary Amateur Satellite allocations between 146 MHz and 24 GHz. The Microwave Amateur Satellite allocations are only Secondary. This means they suffer significant interference from other users including WiFi, TV Senders, Galileo, Bluetooth, Zigbee and WIMAX. Also the existing satellite segments are nowhere near the areas used for weak signal terrestrial operation.

This is a matter of great concern to the Amateur Satellite community and so the presentation by the RSGB Microwave Manager Murray Niman G6JYB on “The Future of Amateur Satellite Spectrum” is sure to be received with great interest.

On Saturday morning there will be a talk on the ESEO satellite. This is a satellite built by students from across Europe. AMSAT-UK members are building a 435 to 2400 MHz linear transponder for the satellite.

The RSGB GB4FUN van will be present throughout the event to allow visitors to work the satellites and an RSGB bookstall will be available on Saturday morning.

On Friday there will be a special "Beginners Workshop" to show newcomers how to use the many Amateur Satellites that are available.

The event is open to all Radio Amateurs and SWL's.
Either day passes or full packages comprising overnight accommodation and meals at the University are available.
An online booking service is available for PayPal, Visa and Master Card payments. Late bookings are still being accepted.
