WCBS-FM to return to oldies format

WCBS-FM New York will this week return to the oldies format that was dropped two years ago in favour of the “Jack” format, which plays music from the 80’s and 90’s and uses voice-tracking instead of live DJ’s.

This format has been successful in other markets, but the flagship station of the CBS Network has lost half its audience, and saw a 30% drop in ad revenue in 2006 compared with 2005.

The oldies format is currently being carried on the WCBS-FM website. The station confirmed today that it will return to oldies at 1.01 pm Eastern Time on Thursday.

It has already been confirmed that DJ’s Dan Taylor and Bob Shannon will return to WCBS-FM, and others may follow in months to come.

The playlist will feature more from the 1980’s than was the case before
