1834 Isaac Fischer of Springfield, VT, patents sandpaper.

1837 Victoria becomes Queen of Great Britain etc.

1844 Vulcanized rubber patented by C. Goodyear of New York City

1883 Train service between Sydney and Melbourne begins.

1896 Prof. Bragg demonstrates X-rays in Adelaide.

1920 First British public broadcast Dame Nellie Melba concert.

1951 First commercial electronic computer, Bureau of Census, USA.
