DXpedition to the Island of Jura

The Macclesfield & District Radio Society organised a 'DXpedition' to the Island of Jura, Inner Hebrides, in late April/early May 2008.

A club member operates from the cottage

A cottage in the village of Craighouse was rented, and amateur radio transceivers and antennas installed by the team.

Around 430 contacts were made, to 37 countries including Japan, Solomon Islands, USA, Virgin Islands and most parts of Europe. Operation was mainly on the 80m, 40m and 20m HF bands, with SSB, CW, PSK31, RTTY and Hellschreiber modes all used.

The station used the club callsign - normally GX4MWS - adapted for being a portable operation in Scotland, hence GS4MWS/P.

On Monday 28th April, other members of the club, attending the regular Monday evening meeting at the Pack Horse Bowling Club, Macclesfield, managed to contact their fellow members on Jura.
