Information on NZ transmitter buyers

Information is no longer being collected about the purchasers of radio transmitters in New Zealand.

Radio Dealers in New Zealand used to have to supply the MED with details of who they sold certain types of transmitter to, this is now no longer the case.

A statement issued on Tuesday 8th July says:
Authority to supply radio transmitting equipment in New Zealand has long been established by application for and issue of a (free) "licence to supply radio transmitters".

A condition of the licences is an obligation to advise the Ministry about who has been supplied with particular types of transmitter, as may be prescribed in the Radio Regulations. This has allowed the Ministry to manage the risk of non-compliance for those categories of transmitter, by enabling direct contact with the transmitter owner to ensure the required licence or operator qualification has been obtained.

To clarify that there are now no categories of transmitter presently specified, and therefore no returns required, a Gazette Notice has recently been published and can be seen on the RSM website.
