AMSAT-UK Satellite Beginners Workshop

AMSAT-UK will be holding their 23rd International Space Colloquium at the University of Surrey, Guildford from Friday 25th until Sunday 27th July.

As in previous years there will be a Beginner’s Workshop on the Friday afternoon to teach newcomers how to get started in the fascinating world of Amateur Radio Space communications.

Demonstration of satellite comms using FM handheld

With some
satellites you can communicate using little more than a standard dual-band FM handheld.
Others use SSB or CW and permit intercontinental DX communications using the VHF/UHF bands.

Most of the Astronauts onboard the International Space Station are licenced Radio Amateurs and operate 2 metres FM when off duty.

The Beginners Workshop will be run by Dave G4DPZ and Carlos G0AKI and only a limited number of places are available.

The Colloquium is open to all. New for 2008, it has been arranged with the University for "walkin" day delegates for £10 per day. For this, you do not get any meals, only attendance at lectures/beginners sessions. It does not entitle you to any other of the functions.

There is no need to book, just turn up on the day. It would help if you could let us know in advance if you intend using this facility, please email g3wgm@amsat.org
