Russia to launch Soyuz-ST from Caribbean in 2009Soyuz-ST should be launched from the new Russian Caribbean launch pad at Kourou in the first half of 2009. The European Space Agency (ESA) already operates from Kourou. The new Russian Federation launch pad is near the village of Sinnamari about 10 kilometers north of the site used by ESA for the Ariane-5. The Kourou launch site is intended mainly for the launch of geostationary satellites. Its close proximity to the equator will enable the Soyuz-ST to put into orbit heavier satellites than from Baikonur in Kazakhstan and Plesetsk in northern Russia. Read the full story at SpaceDaily
