Ofcom publishes two spectrum documents

On Wednesday, the UK regulator Ofcom published documents regarding Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) and the use of interleaved UHF spectrum by Cognitive radios.

The first was a consultation on proposals to amend the Regulations on licence-exempt spectrum used by ultra-wide band (UWB) technologies.

The changes will implement EU legislation by updating the existing technical parameters for the establishment, installation or use of UWB equipment.

The consultation, which closes on 4 August 2009, can be found here

Separately, they also published a statement on the technical parameters that would enable cognitive devices to use interleaved spectrum on a licence-exempt basis without causing harmful interference to other users.

As the use of a geolocation database has emerged as essential to their deployment in the medium term, Ofcom expects to publish a further consultation later in 2009 and to pursue international harmonisation around an acceptable standard in the meantime.
