Essex radio hams receive SSTV pictures from the ISS

Two Essex-based radio amateurs have received good SSTV pictures from the ISS during the first of two days of Slow Scan TV transmissions. More pictures are expected to be sent from the ISS today.

Chelmsford radio amateur David Barber, G8OQW received this picture during one of the passes. However, David said that the ISS system de-keyed slightly before the picture transmission completed, as can be seen from the hash at the very bottom of the picture.

Meanwhile, a little further east in Witham, Essex,
Nic Hickson, M0NRH
couldn't believe his good luck.
He writes:

I am an active member of the Colchester Amateur Radio Club, and have been interested in ISS and SSTV for quite sometime but, to my horror, had to drop my mast to do some maintenance on my 2m Yagi just as the latest ISSTV activation on July 15 was about to take place.

Undeterred I decided to try and listen for the ISSTV any way with the yagi on the ground and pointing straight up in the air.

You can imagine my great surprise when I managed to obtain some wonderful pictures from the ISS, it just goes to show what can be done if timing is right with some advice from fellow amateurs. The pictures are very clear as though I was actually taking them myself, so please don't give up it goes to show anything is possible.
