PW author Gordon King G4VFV dies

I'm afraid to advise you that my great friend and Practical Wireless author Gordon King G4VFV died at his home near Brixham in Devon, mid-morning yesterday. Gordon had been suffering from stomach cancer.

I don't know yet when the funeral will be, but of course, I shall attend.

I've known Gordon since the 1970s when Heinemann-Newnes asked me to work with him to prepare new editions of his books.

An energetic, friendly man, Gordon wrote many eminently practical and easy-to-read books and his classic - still available in libraries - was on the PAL Colour TV system.

He wrote a superb series in PW on the practical use of the oscilloscope a few years ago, which he thoroughly enjoyed doing, and I enjoyed (even more) preparing for publication. We shall miss him very much indeed.

An obituary will appear in PW in the October issue (published September), as the September issue has gone to press.

Regards.
