1586 First potatoes arrive in England from Columbia.

1866 After a dozen years, Cyrus Field successfully completed the trans-Atlantic Cable.

1872 Dr M Loomis granted patent for wireless experiments.

1876 A Bell telephones over 8 miles. Later 143 miles.

1909 O. Wright tests first US Army airplane, 1 hour 12 minutes.
