Setback for UK digital radio moveSlower than expected uptake of digital radio means that AM and FM signals may not be turned off as early as planned, today's BBC News reports. In a speech later, communications minister Ed Vaizey is due to say that digital radio "is a huge opportunity" but that the transition cannot be imposed on "an unwilling public". At the moment the radio industry is working towards a 2015 switchover. But Mr Vaizey is to say a decision will be made when more than half of radio listeners have tuned into digital. Latest figures from Rajar show that, in March 2010, 24% of all radio listening was digital, compared to 66% on AM or FM radio. That represents a rise of 20% compared with the same period in 2009.
