Background information on the transmission:

Replay I: 1 July 15:00-15:15 GMT

Replay II: 2 July 10:45-11:00 GMT

In about 18 months, under the leading role of the ESA Education Department, a 250-strong team of students have built SSETI Express, a small satellite now due to be shipped to the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Northern Russia for a launch currently scheduled on 25 August 2005. The microsatellite is one of the projects of the Student Space Exploration and Technology Initiative (SSETI) created by ESA in 2000.

SSETI's aim is to encourage students to learn about space through the design, construction, launch and operation of small satellites. Its slogan is 'Let's launch the dream!'
The collaboration between the pan-European network of students, universities and experts involved SSETI has been carried out using modern Internet tools.

SSETI Express measures just 60 by 60 by 70 cm, small enough to piggyback its way to orbit on a commercial launch. It is a truly European-scale project. For instance, its communication system is a cooperation between Polish students and the Amateur Radio community, its propulsion system was developed by German students from Stuttgart, and its solar panels were assembled by French students from Toulouse, and its on-board computer, attitude control and determination system and camera all come from Aalborg in Denmark.

Today's Exchange was mainly recorded at Aalborg, during tests of the ground segment, and includes soundbites by students and their Thesis advisor.

In August, ESA TV will provide live coverage of the SSETI Express launch.
