Terrestrial DMB test launched in London

Korea and the United Kingdom have jointly launched a trial Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) service in London earlier this week, ahead of the World Cup finals.

T-DMB is Korea's mobile television platform, allowing broadcasters to transmit digital television programming to handheld devices via a landline. London is currently testing the waters to expand its mobile television market.

With around 300 Korean and UK officials attending, the two countries celebrated the service's trial run at One Birdcage Walk in London on Monday, the Korea Times reports. On that day, the trial T-DMB went live along with UK's DAB-IP.

The two competing technologies will be closely assessed by 80 British IT and content experts for six months before UK chooses its standard mobile television technology.
