Victoria Cross Special Event Station

The amateur radio station based at the Museum of the Royal Regiment of Artillery will be operating special event callsign GB150VC on 1-28 June 2006 to mark 150 years since the inauguration of the Victoria Cross decoration for supreme military valour.

In addition to conventional modern amateur radio gear, the special event station will also use a 19 set (HP) and a more up-to-date Clansman radio (PRC320). Operation will include the 80 and 40m amateur bands. A special QSL card will be available.

Over the weekend of 24-25 June, the GB150VC station will also exhibit some of the radio equipment used by the Royal Artillery from the beginning of the Second World War until the 1980s.

Equipment on display will include an R107 receiver and a 22 set (as used at Arnhem by the 1st Airlanding Light Regiment RA) as well as more modern Larkspur radios such as C13 and C42. Readers are encouraged to visit the museum on 24-25 June when the next military vehicle weekend event takes place.

The museum, located at the former Royal Arsenal site at Woolwich, south east London, houses a major collection of guns and artillery memorabilia. It is also home to the Crimean guns from which the bronze VC medals are struck.
