Thumb Amateur Radio Club Prepares for 2006
Field Day

The biggest day of the
year on the HAM radio operators calendar will be met with a great deal
of enthusiasm this year
The 4th full weekend in June of 2006 is just like any other weekend
- unless you are a HAM radio operator.
Every year during this weekend, HAM's from around the world try and connect
with each other in an effort to prepare for adverse conditions. The radio
equipment that the operators use will be all run under auxilary power,
and prepare everyone for emergency services.
"HAM radio operators offer a great service to the community."
says club member Adam Filkins. "From weather spotting to backup communications
for emergency services within our county, HAM operators are eager to help
out."
In disasterous situations, such as last year's Hurricane Katrina, fleets
of HAM operators came to offer their services to those in need. Helping
with everything from connecting families to helping coordinate the efforts
of emergency teams. All HAM services are completely voluntary, which makes
this hobby all that much more special. "We are all in this to connect
with people, and to lend a helping hand with anything that we can",
stated Filkins.
The public is welcome to join in on the festivities, and there is no
license needed to transmit at the clubs field day site.
