Study of 2.4 GHz Licence Exempt activity

A Licence Exempt Spectrum Measurement Study was recently carried out by Mass Consultants Limited for the UK Regulator Ofcom involving 20 sites across England.

The study appears to show comparitively little usage of 2.4 GHz (page 30 of the summary). This is almost certainly down to the locations chosen for monitoring and the short range (< 1000 feet) of licence exempt consumer products.

Had the monitoring stations been sited in a typically urban household, built at 20 homes to the acre, they'd have picked up plenty of activity.

Such activity causes signficant problems for the Amateur Satellite Service which needs access to low noise floor microwave spectrum in order the receive the very weak signals from Amateur Radio satellites.
