1819 The bicycle patented by W.K. Clarkson, Jr. of New York City.

1885 C Bell and C.S. Tainter applied for a patent for the gramophone.

1896 Marconi transmits 400 metres between London PO buildings.

1914 World War I began. Archduke Francis Ferdinand and wife assassinated.

1919 World War I ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.

1925 Patent for the frosted electric light bulb filed by Marvin Pipkin.
