Field Day publicityAllen Pitts, W1AGP, ARRL Media and Public Relations Manager, says that ARRL Field Day should also be seen as a public relations event, with groups able to score more than 500 points for working the public relations angle before the weekend even begins. Allen said "Instead of just telling your fellow hams and club members about Field Day, why not tell your local newspapers and radio and television stations? Having a media hit or link is good for 100 points." He added " Instead of manning only the radios, how about manning a public information table with brochures, signs and a smile? That's another 100 points." Well, it would seem that many amateur radio clubs across the US have done just that, and submitted Field Day items to their local news media. Here's just a few of the very many that we came across: 'Hams' ready to have a Field Day Ham radio operators holding Field Day Local ham radio operators are preparing for field day Amateur radio field-day exercise planned Ham radio enthusiasts show off Field day planned for ham radio operators Amateur radio operators: Come check us out Ham radio more than hobby Ham radio operators show off for McLeod County residents Ham radio operators conduct public demo Ham it up on the radio
