Tom O'Donnell, EI4Z - Silent Key

Tom O'Donnell, EI4Z, who was in his mid-nineties and the oldest living EI, passed away last weekend in St. Mary's Hospital in the Phoenix Park after a long illness, against which he battled courageously.

This sad news was relayed by his son Philip, an ex-radio officer, who said of his father "He came from an era when ships were made of wood and men were made of steel."

Shortly before his death, Tom made Philip promise to carry on the EI4Z call-sign and wrote to Comreg expressing his wish.

As Philip already holds a PMG certificate, we hope to hear the EI4Z call QRV soon again activated by Philip.

To Philip, Joan, Ray and all the family we extend our deepest sympathy on Tom's death. May he rest in peace.
