First Norwegian 70 MHz beacon

The first Norwegian 70 MHz (4m) beacon LA7VHF started operating on 70,081 MHz on Sunday, June 6.

The NRRL Beacon Manager Stefan LA0BY has provided this information:

Callsign: LA7VHF
Locator: JP99LQ (Tromsoe)
Frequency: 70,081 MHz
Antenna: 4-ele yagi beaming 190 deg
Power: 10 W output (ca. 40 W ERP)
Beacon responsible: Aasmund Birger Jakobsen, LA5TFA

Many thanks to Ralf LA5QEA for supplying a commercial TX and PA, and to Dithmar DF7KF for supplying the beacon keyer. The units were integrated and re-tuned to 70MHz by LA0BY.

The beacon is presently operated from the QTH of the beacon keeper LA5TFA. It is planned to co-locate the 4m beacon with the 2m beacon LA7VHF and the 6m beacon LA7SIX.

Reception reports are very welcome and can be sent by email to la5tfa@online.no

LA5TFA and LA9AKA will also be QRV very soon on 70 MHz from JP99.

• Monday, June 7 saw some good Sporadic E on 70 MHz. Selim, 2E0EKF, in Essex worked Greece and Italy on the band using just a few watts of SSB to a vertical omni antenna.
