USS Massachusetts on 20m CWJune 5-6 saw the annual Museum Ships On-The-Air weekend and a video from the USS Massachusetts is now on YouTube. The YouTube description reads: CW conversation videoed aboard museum ship, USS Massachusetts, during an annual "Museum Ships" on-the-air event, June 5, 2010. Video was taken in the vessel's transmitter site, or Radio-2, which includes next to the banks of transmitters a row of auxiliary receivers. The receiver selected is an RCA "RBB". The transmitter, a Westinghouse "TDE". Frequency 14,040-Kc in the amateur radio band. The aerial is a random wire suspended from the vessel's radar tower. The operators are sending telegraphy with semi-automatic keys (or "bugs") conversing in an unscripted or free-style manner known as "copying in your head." Code captured in this video is clear, letter-perfect, and abbreviated by conventions recognizable by CW operators world-wide. Telegraphers are K2WI (signing N1EPL/USS Massachusetts) and WA1SKQ.
