RSGB's Friday meeting with Ofcom

A meeting between RSGB and Ofcom took place on Friday. Myself and RSGB Regional Manager Phillip G4NZQ were giving a talk to the Barking Club on that evening and were able to give them the latest info "hot off the press".

For those who were unable to attend the meeting the summary below has been provided by Colin G3PSM.

Incidently Steve Roper the OFCOM Head of Deregulation and Contracting Out is an Amateur, he holds a G8 call.

The meeting was called by Ofcom in response to the concerns expressed by RSGB to the proposed consultation document, in particular to the references to deregulation. Ofcom was represented by Richard Hooper, Deputy Chairman of Ofcom, Vic Brashko, Operations Director and Steve Roper, Head of Deregulation and Contracting Out.

The Society was represented by Jeff Smith MI0AEX, President of RSGB, Peter Kirby G0TWW, RSGB General Manager, Colin Thomas G3PSM, RSGB Spectrum Director and Jane Atkinson, RSGB PR Consultant.

The RSGB delegation was warmly received and our concerns discussed at some length. The following was agreed -

• *Deregulation is not an option*
• A revised consultation document will be placed before the Ofcom Board at their meeting on April 5th.
• Subject to approval the document will be published within a few days of the Board meeting.
• Ofcom and the RSGB will meet again toward the end of April or beginning of May.
