Summary of Ofcom's UWB responsesJohn Bowen G8DET of the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society has produced
this short summary of some of the responses to the OFCOM UWB Consultation
which are now available at
O2 is the best. Tried ringing Stuart Wilson of O2 today but found that on all their pages they quote a year out-of-date telephone number. 01753 565000 is replaced by 0113 272 2000. Left a message saying how much I liked his response. Comments to the rest I noted. Everyone I read were in favour of Ofcom agreeing with CEPT, ITU, ECC, EU etc. Wisai of Israel - they make UWB Chips for USA. In favour of what Ofcom say. Welsh Assembly also like the idea of UWB - comment not answered questions. Ubisense - manufacturers of UWB chips - agreed with Ofcom. UMTS Forum - OK about UWB - think high band OK - low level of -85 is their idea. C&W - as CARS, but I was disappointed they did not comment to Q15 - EMC. Copsey Telecom Ltd - produced a tremendous write-up pointing out that UWB is not radio!. K A Vicker - Individual similar to me - thought Ofcom were Rutherford Labs - did not like UWB but did not answer 10/15 UK Radio Astronomy - Required £100M from Ofcom to move their aerials to a "Quieter place" as suggested by Ofcom!. Thought the Ofcom Consultants had been paid to prove Ofcom's case. TZero - commented, not answered Ofcom's Questions. In favour of FCC approaches. Kingston (Hull) - happy but feel FCC levels too high & may cause interference. Alereon Inc - like Ofcom but feel that UWB equipment should have OFF/ON switches. All telecom do not like UWB at all - will create interference and will cost them money. Regards John Bowen G8DET
