Belgian Foreign Minister wants EU to launch radio and TV to Iran

The Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karel De Gucht, wants the European Union to take concrete steps to speed up the democratisation of Iran.

De Gucht believes the EU should follow the example of its recent broadcasting initiative towards Belarus, and set up an EU radio and/or TV service to Iran.

He points out that a great deal of the Iranian population is Western orientated.

The Minister was speaking after a two day informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Salzburg, Austria.
