Views of European administrations on licence exemption

A draft report by the European Radiocommunications Office (ERO) http://www.ero.dk/ gives an insight into the views of European administrations into Licence Exemption for the Amateur Radio and other Services.

Draft ECC Report 83 can be seen at

European nations are increasingly moving towards licence exemption for the Maritime, Satellite and in some cases the Amateur Radio Services. To quote from the report:

"Out of sixteen responding administrations, twelve (Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic and UK) agreed with the statement that “in harmonised bands as well as for certain radio applications where equipment seems to be increasingly sophisticated, the risk for interference has reduced considerably which makes licences less and less justified."

Clearly the regulatory environment is changing rapidly throughout Europe and Radio Amateurs will need to remain vigilant.
