Niger IRLP Node

"Well I still run Node 6800 in Darwin but very remotely now" that's Mike VK8ZMA speaking to the WIA National News Room from Niger in Africa.

Mike is experimenting with a new IRLP node on the air over there. Just waiting for some final hardware, but the PC and software etc is all in place and working, in fact we received our first call back advice just this week!

The new IRLP Node is 8191 and located in the capital city Niamey in Niger and one of the first things was the usual automated re-broadcast of the WIA national news there every Sunday morning at 0900 local time (GMT +1).

For the last few years there have only been two resident amateurs in Niger, namely Jim 5U7JB and Bruce 5U7B.

Jim is leaving for home in the USA and retirement after a life in the diplomatic service and most recently as the head of the Peace Corps in Niger. VK8ZMA Mike has obtained the call 5U7MA so the grand total of hams in Niger will remain at two!

From time to time a DXpedition rolls through but they are few and far between.

The long-winded URL of http://www.mikeandsharon.boldlygoingnowhere.org
will get us!
