Waddenzee says work on radio ship progressing
On its website, Dutch commercial broadcaster Radio Waddenzee / Radio
Seagull, based in Friesland, reports that in the coming two months its
radio ship, which will be used on its assigned frequency of 1602 kHz,
will begin to look more like a broadcasting vessel.
The mast, which recently arrived, consists of 4 or 5 sections. The first
one will be painted red, the next one white and so on.
Before the summer, a studio will be constructed. The studio equipment
is already on board the ship. The transmitter, however, is still overseas
and awaiting transportation.
The mast originates from the UK and was custom built. It's 8 foot wide
at the base, slowly getting thinner the closer you get to the top. The
height will be between 100 and 120 feet.
Two crossbars will enable sea proof rigging, even though it is unlikely
for the ship to end up at an anchorage where she will face high seas.
