FRARS Open Day Saturday 15th March

As our contribution to this year's National Science & Engineering Week the Flight Refuelling Amateur Radio Society will be holding an open day at their HQ at the Cobham Sports & Social Club, Merley, Wimborne Minster, Dorset.

During Saturday 15th March 2008, starting at 11.00Hrs , the Society will be showcasing the activities of an active Amateur Radio club, who have already tutored many hundreds of people from all walks of life into a hobby in Radio Communications.

Apart from live communication demos spanning the planet on all frequencies from close to Medium wave radio upto 10GHz , near to satellite TV , there will be experiments to measure the Solar flux and the distance to the surface of the Moon.

A live two way contact using the Moon as a pasive reflector will occur during the afternoon, with the possibility of several more.

All forms of Radio equipment will be on view, from the simlest single diode "crystal set" to the very latest in Software defined Radio and amateur standard digital televison.

The event is open to all and there is no entry charge.
