DXpedition to Swaziland August 2009 -
operators required

I am planning a DXpedition to Swaziland in early August 2009.

At the moment the team comprises –
David GI4FUM/ EI4DJ/ 3DA0DJ
Tony G4LDL

The object of the exercise is to provide a ham radio station at an International scout camp near to Manzini with the callsign 3DA0SS.

This callsign was first activated from Hawane Resort (near Mbabane) in October 2008 for Jamboree on the Air. A report on this operation was published in the January 2009 edition of Radcom magazine and also reported in the world JOTA report.

The scout campsite is on a south facing hillside and is not likely to provide a good takeoff to Europe or the USA. However we plan that the team should stay at Hawane Resort (http://www.hawane.co.sz) where there are permanent antennas including a four square for 40m
and a 60ft tower with beam antennas for 20/17/15/12/ 10m. Hawane Resort is an established DXing location serviced by Daniel ZS6JR of African DX Safaris.

I have operated there in March 2007 (CQWPX SSB) and October 2008 (JOTA and CQWW SSB) as 3DA0DJ and have DXCC confirmed with that callsign from that location.

We will operate from Hawane in the evenings and early mornings and drive over to the scout campsite during the day (about an hour away). There is a DXpedition to Lesotho at the same time as our visit to Swaziland.

John 9M6XRO is a member of the Lesotho DXpedition team (also serviced by African DX Safaris) but he will be joining us at Hawane between 6th and 13th August.

We plan to fly out to Johannesburg with South African Airways from Heathrow arriving on Wednesday 29th July.
We will hire a car from Johannesburg airport and drive up to Swaziland. We hope to collect equipment for the operation in the Johannesburg / Pretoria area on the way up.

Our visit to Swaziland will include a trip to the Kruger National Park which is 2 hours drive from Hawane Resort. We also hope to visit the Trans World Radio transmitter site near to Manzini.

We are looking for more members for the team.
