9 kHz Receiving Equipment

Jim M0BMU has produced a neat loop/preamp design suitable for listening to Radio Amateurs operating around 9kHz.

Interest in these frequencies has been growing recently and several UK Radio Amateurs have applied to Ofcom for NoV's to transmit at these frequencies. The wavelength of 9 kHz is about 33km so practical antennas certainly present some challenges.

Already signals have received at distances exceeding 800 km and it's surely just a matter of time before an Amateur Radio 9kHz signal gets across the Atlantic!

The loop/preamp design by Jim M0BMU has sufficiently low noise to provide a state-of-the-art receiver for this band when used with the many excellent software based VLF receivers such as Winrad and Spectrum Lab.
