Badge of honour for WWII code breakerThe Haxham Courant newspaper reports that James Bradley has been awarded a Bletchley Park Commemorative Badge for his wireless intercept work. The newspaper says: James Mitchell Bradley (84) is among veterans responsible for the interception of German signals who have been presented with a specially struck badge of honour. Those who served at the Bletchley Park spy station, and associated centres are the latest ‘home front’ veterans to be recognised by the Government. Mr Bradley, of Edens Lawn, said he was delighted to receive recognition, even though it was 65 years after his war service. As a teenager in 1944 and 1945, he worked at Harpenden Hall in Buckinghamshire, an outpost of the famous Bletchley station, where German codes made by the Enigma machine were cracked. He and a small number of colleagues at the Harpenden wireless station listened round the clock for German armed forces’ messages, sending them on to Bletchley for decryption. After receiving his Bletchley Park Commemorative Badge last week, Mr Bradley said: “I am delighted that my role has been accepted as something the country approved of.” Read the full article at April 6 - Chelmsford Talk
