IMD at Sandford Mill Radio MuseumInternational Marconi Day (IMD) on Saturday 24th April celebrating Marconi's birthday, is The Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society (CARS) will be using two call signs, GB5HF on CW and GX0MWT on SSB. They will be running three stations from the museum, two stations on HF running SSB and CW and a station on 145 and 433 MHz FM. The club is fortunate in being able to set up one of their stations in the famous 2MT Writtle Hut now housed inside the museum. It was used for some of the first wireless broadcasts in 1922. CARS will also be running a demonstration of automatic mechanical Morse transmission and reception using historic equipment from early in the last century. This demonstration run by Geoff Lovegrove G7KLV and Colin Page G0TRM is always very popular with the general public especially younger visitors. Geoff Lovegrove G7KLV has organised a display of Broadcast Receivers through the ages demonstrating their development from 1920’s Crystal Sets to the very latest DAB Radios. Some hitherto unseen artefacts from the Museum store as well as examples from private collections will be on view. Sandford Mill is only open 5 or 6 times a year so IMD provides a good opportunity to view the collection of radio exhibits which includes a Ships Radio Room with the collection of Marconi and other Marine Radio equipment donated by the late Donald Imber G0VIS. The museum will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm, admittance and parking are free. Sandford Mill: http://www.g0mwt.org.uk/sandfordmill/
