Pacific VHF-SHF Radio Group

A new amateur radio group has been formed dedicated to operating on the bands from VHF to SHF in the Pacific region.

The group founders write:

Why have we formed the Pacific VHF-SHF Radio Group?

Well, quite simply, in this part of the world we have many VHF-SHF operators, but we are widely spread and grouped together in small numbers all doing our own thing with little contact between us.

In Europe and the US there are some large well run groups that support VHF-SHF amateur radio, with access to knowledge, technical resources and equipment, sadly we are lacking the same capabilities here, primarily due to lower amateur population numbers and, in many cases, vast oceanic distances that prohibit us communicating in the same way.

To address this on both a national level within New Zealand and on an international level with our Pacific neighbours in Australia and our surrounding island friends, we have formed a group of like minded radio amateurs who have the aim of promoting and supporting VHF-SHF operating throughout the Pacific regions, including those of our Pacific friends in North and South American nations, Asia and Canada.

We of course welcome radio amateurs from other regions too :)

We will utilise the Internet to best effect, using electronic forums, web pages and electronic newsletters to build strong International ties between us.

What are our aims?

We aim to:

- Provide a focal point for all Pacific region amateurs interested in any area of VHF-SHF Operating.

- Share knowledge and information to promote and support VHF-SHF activities in the Pacific zones.

- Establish strong ties with all national societies and VHF-SHF orientated groups/organisations in all Pacific nations to provide a strong united voice.

- Create events that support our aims of promoting VHF - SHF amateur radio in the Pacific region.

- Distribute a regular electronic newsletter providing a platform to share VHF-SHF news, technical information, activity reports, contest and propagation news etc.

How do I join and how much does it cost?

Membership is open to anyone interested in any area of VHF-SHF radio.

We are not just a weak signal group but also promote and support beacons, repeaters, ATV, digital modes etc

There is no fee to join. All we ask in return is that you participate in a positive manner and share our love the VHF-SHF bands and play an active role in our forums and newsletters.

We will be launching a new website shortly, until then we would like you to register on our new electronic forum. Again membership is free, and no details will be shared outside of the forum for any purpose.
