Amateur Radio and Talking NewspapersFrom Fermanagh Talking Newspaper Association – FTNA is delighted that the technical support provided by LEARC to its local talking newspaper was included in the Award application. The FTNA has drawn great benefit in high quality audio presentations guided by LEARC experts. Weekly readings from local press are circulated to about 200 blind or partially sighted persons in Fermanagh, and are much appreciated. FTNA Executive Committee has encouraged other Talking Newspapers to seek a similar relationship with local amateur radio clubs. There are about 14 Talking Newspapers across Northern Ireland. Search <talking+newspaper> on www.communityni.org Likewise, there are about 16 amateur radio clubs. Go to www.rsgb.org/local/region8 In Northern Ireland and across the whole UK, there are enjoyable opportunities here for local radio amateurs to use technical knowledge and skills in community service, and for recruitment into amateur radio from a particularly suited population whose view of the world is gained through sound.
